Six event dates will take over Bayshore Boulevard between now and late February. The first is a 7:30 a.m. charity run on November 7. The last is the 50th running of the Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic. In between, each event asks a little more of the boulevard. It starts with a few early hours on a Saturday and builds to closures that, in 2026, ran overnight and into the next day.
Most of these routes also share the same entrance. Four of the six start in Downtown and reach Bayshore from its northern end, by way of the Platt Street Bridge or nearby streets. That stretch along the river is where the City of Tampa's West River BUILD project is now under construction. For anyone in Hyde Park who uses the boulevard daily, the northern end is the part to watch this season.
November Starts With Short Mornings
The season opens with the 26th Annual Bolt Run on Saturday, November 7. It's put on by the Tampa Bay Lightning, starts at Benchmark International Arena and follows a route through Bayshore Boulevard, according to the team's Bolt Run page. The 5K and 5-mile runners start at 7:30 a.m., and the 1-mile family run starts after them. Proceeds go to Special Olympics Florida, according to the race's registration page.
Less than three weeks later, the Tampa YMCA Turkey Gobble runs on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 26. According to the Tampa YMCA, its 5K starts at 7 a.m. The published course map shows an out-and-back route. It starts at Benchmark International Arena, crosses the Platt Street Bridge and runs onto Bayshore.
Both November races cross the river into Hyde Park at the same point and turn around somewhere along the boulevard. That means the Platt Street end carries the heaviest foot traffic. The far southern stretch toward Gandy sees less of it.
December Adds a Longer Course on the Same Entrance
The SKECHERS Hot Chocolate Run follows on Sunday, December 13, with 5K, 10K and 15K distances. According to the organizer's Tampa page, the start and finish are at Cotanchobee Fort Brooke Park in Downtown. The listed course highlights are the Platt Street Bridge, Bayshore Boulevard, the Bayshore Fitness Trail and Historic Hyde Park North, with views of Harbour and Davis Islands.
The same page also says "2026 Updated Maps Coming Soon!" and that 2026 details may change. The general shape is known. The exact turnaround on Bayshore isn't published yet, so it's worth checking the map again in early December.
With the 15K, December is the first event with a long course, so runners will be on Bayshore well past the early-morning window of the November 5Ks.
January Brings the Overnight Closures
The two Gasparilla parades change the scale. Races close lanes for a morning. In 2026, the parades closed the road from the night before into the next day.
The 2027 dates are set:
- Children's Gasparilla, Saturday, January 23, 2027. The route runs along Bay to Bay Boulevard, then north on Bayshore Boulevard to Edison Avenue, according to EventFest's Children's Parade page.
- Gasparilla Pirate Fest, Saturday, January 30, 2027. The Parade of Pirates is presented by Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla, and EventFest places it on Bayshore Boulevard.
The City of Tampa's 2027 Gasparilla parade information page lists both dates and says to check back for updates. It doesn't give 2027 closure hours yet.
Last season's advisories show the scale. For the 2026 Children's Gasparilla, the City's traffic advisory listed Bayshore Boulevard between Gandy Boulevard and Platt Street as a full road or lane closure. It ran from 10 p.m. on January 23 to midnight on January 24. For the 2026 Pirate Fest, the City's advisory listed the same stretch, Gandy to Platt. That closure ran from 10 p.m. on January 30 to 5 a.m. on February 1.
Those hours are last season's and may not carry over. They do show the pattern, though. In 2026 the morning races gave way to two weekends when the whole length of Bayshore, from Gandy to Platt, was closed through the night. The Pirate Fest closure ran past 24 hours, with the road reopening early on a Sunday.

February Ends With a Milestone in Hyde Park
The season ends with an anniversary. The organizers describe it on Run Gasparilla this way:
"The 50th running of the Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic Race Weekend will commence on Saturday, February 20, and Sunday, February 21, 2027."
The weekend includes four distances: the PGDC 15K, the PGDC 5K, the Publix Gasparilla Half Marathon and the Publix Gasparilla 8K. There are also four challenge combinations for runners entering more than one race. The organizer calls the course a flat, fast out-and-back along Bayshore Boulevard.
Saturday's 15K connects the two ends of the season. According to the 15K course details, it starts at Brorein Street and Franklin Street in Downtown. It finishes at Tarpon Dock on Bayshore Boulevard, between Beach Place and Hyde Park Place. That's a finish line inside Hyde Park, on the stretch closest to the neighborhood's streets.
The half marathon page says that course also runs along Bayshore. It requires a minimum pace because of the City's road-closure permits. The organizer hasn't posted a full timetable of when Bayshore opens and closes to cars that weekend.
The Corner Itself Is Under Construction
That brings the season back to Platt Street. The City's West River BUILD project is listed as in construction. It has an estimated cost of $56,860,000, a planned start date of November 17, 2025 and a planned end date of June 11, 2027, according to the City's project page. The same page lists substantial completion of the construction phase as February 2027. That's the same month as the Distance Classic.
The project fills the remaining gaps in a planned 12.2-mile multi-use path on both sides of the Hillsborough River. That includes over-water underpasses at the Platt Street, Brorein Street and Kennedy Boulevard bridges, similar to the ones on the east-side Riverwalk. Bayshore Boulevard and Hyde Park are among the areas the City says the network will connect to Downtown. The City's October 2025 update on the West Riverwalk expansion describes three planned pieces. They are a multi-use trail connection to Bayshore just south of Platt Street, underpasses at Platt and Brorein, and a protected intersection at Platt and Bayshore.
Those features are still planned, not open. The page's two dates, February 2027 for substantial completion and June 2027 for the end of the project, leave the exact opening date unclear. Still, the timing lines up. Construction on the project is scheduled to continue through this race and parade season. The City's substantial-completion target lands in the same month as the Distance Classic, and the Platt and Bayshore corner is where most of this winter's runners will enter the boulevard. If the planned improvements there open on schedule, next season's routes would start from a different version of that corner.
The project's construction notices give the most specific updates on lane shifts and work hours around Platt Street. They're worth checking alongside the City's parade advisories when those are published in January.
